The Board of Supervisors of Adair County announced on May 6 that a public hearing will be held to discuss an amendment to the current budget for the fiscal year ending June 30, 2026. The hearing is scheduled for October 29 at 9:15 a.m. at the Adair County Courthouse in Greenfield, Iowa.

This public hearing gives residents and taxpayers an opportunity to voice their opinions for or against the proposed budget amendment. The announcement specifies that there will be no increase in taxes as a result of this amendment.

A detailed statement outlining additional receipts, cash balances from the previous fiscal year, and both past and anticipated disbursements will be made available at the hearing. According to the notice, “Budget amendments are subject to protest. If protest petition requirements are met, the State Appeal Board will hold a local hearing.” Further information can be found by consulting https://dom.iowa.gov/local-gov-appeals.

The proposed changes include adjustments such as increased expenditures for tornado damage repairs (including radio tower equipment and Old Union Cemetery), use of insurance and FEMA funds already received, updates to the County Comprehensive Plan, interest payments on bonds issued in 2025, medical examiner fees, courtroom air conditioning and heating unit upgrades, as well as prisoner room and board fees.

Residents who wish to review specifics about revenues or expenditures may contact Mandy Berg at (641) 743-2546 ahead of the meeting. Any further steps regarding protests or appeals would follow state procedures if initiated by local stakeholders.
