Capri Rogers, age 37, from Alexandria, Virginia, was sentenced on Mar. 13 to more than seven years in federal prison after pleading guilty to possession of a firearm by a felon.
The case highlights ongoing efforts to address violent crime and illegal firearm possession. According to evidence presented in court, on July 4, 2025, law enforcement responded to a report that Rogers had harassed two women riding bicycles and threatened them with a firearm. When officers later located Rogers, he denied involvement and fled on foot, dropping a loaded firearm in the street near a child before being taken into custody.
Rogers has an extensive criminal history that includes two counts of possession of a firearm by a felon in 2022, assault and battery of a family member in 2016, use of a firearm during a robbery in 2008, and another robbery in the same year. During sentencing at the United States District Court in Sioux City, Judge Leonard T. Strand described Rogers’ conduct related to the 2022 firearms offense as “sadistic.” Evidence showed that Rogers used the weapon during that incident to subject his live-in girlfriend to prolonged abuse.
Rogers received a sentence of 90 months’ imprisonment followed by three years of supervised release. There is no parole in the federal system. He will remain in United States Marshal’s custody until he is transported to federal prison.
This prosecution is part of Operation Take Back America, an initiative aimed at combating illegal immigration and violent crime through coordinated efforts across law enforcement agencies. The case was investigated by the Sioux City Police Department and the Bureau of Alcohol Tobacco Firearms and Explosives (ATF), and prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Forde Fairchild.
