The Appanoose County Board of Supervisors announced on May 4 that it will hold a public hearing to discuss an amendment to the current county budget for the fiscal year ending June 30, 2026. The hearing is scheduled for May 18 at 9:10 a.m. in the boardroom at the courthouse located at 201 N 12th St, first floor.

The purpose of this meeting is to allow residents and taxpayers to provide input on proposed changes to revenues and expenditures. The announcement states there will be no increase in taxes as a result of the amendment. A detailed statement outlining additional receipts, cash balances from the previous fiscal year, and both past and anticipated disbursements will be available during the hearing.

According to the notice, amendments include adding revenue and expenses related to prisoner room and board transfers ($2,000), additional revenue and expense in Conservation due to a kayak grant received ($10,764), increased court-appointed attorney costs ($10,000), prepaid IT labor contract expenses ($10,000), and server installation costs ($5,000). These adjustments bring total revenues after amendment to $12,758,044 and total expenditures after amendment to $15,646,546.

Budget amendments are subject to protest by residents. If petition requirements are met for protest purposes, a local hearing may be held by the State Appeal Board. More information about appeals can be found at https://dom.iowa.gov/local-gov-appeals.
