Boone County announced on April 16 the availability of a PRN Seasonal Groundskeeper position to help maintain the Boone County Government Campus during the warmer months. The job will be part-time and temporary, with work expected from approximately April through September.

The role is important as it ensures that public buildings such as the Boone County Courthouse, Law Enforcement Center, Human Services Building, and Boiler/Maintenance Building are kept in good condition for staff and visitors. Proper maintenance of these facilities contributes to safety and a welcoming environment for the community.

The successful candidate will report to the Building and Grounds Maintenance Director and be responsible for tasks including mowing lawns, trimming, caring for flower beds, and maintaining sidewalks and parking lots. Applicants must have an Iowa driver’s license, a high school diploma or GED, be willing to operate grounds care equipment like lawn mowers or tractors, pass background checks and medical examinations, and follow dress code guidelines that prohibit offensive clothing.

Physical requirements include activities such as climbing stairs, walking over uneven terrain, lifting items weighing up to 80 pounds, kneeling or crouching when needed. Reasonable accommodation requests will be considered if necessary. The department uses various types of equipment including zero-turn mowers and garden tractors.

Boone County emphasizes that this job description is subject to change based on organizational needs. The county also states it is an equal opportunity employer.
