Kyle Ryan Cook, a 36-year-old from Cedar Rapids, Iowa, was sentenced on April 6 to two years in federal prison after pleading guilty to one count of interstate communications with a threat to injure.
The case centers on threats made by Cook between May and June 2025. According to evidence presented at court hearings, Cook repeatedly threatened to kill a victim who was not in Iowa using Facebook Messenger. The threats were described as graphic and specific. After his arrest and during transport to a court hearing, Cook told federal agents that he intended to kill the victim and “put her six feet in the ground.”
Court records show that Cook has 21 adult convictions, including violent offenses such as battery, disorderly conduct, domestic abuse, and assault causing bodily injury. Chief Judge C.J. Williams of the United States District Court presided over the sentencing in Cedar Rapids.
Cook received a sentence of 24 months’ imprisonment followed by three years of supervised release. Federal law does not allow for parole.
Cook is currently being held by the United States Marshal’s office until he is transferred to a federal prison.
