Gregory Francis Young, III, a 27-year-old Davenport resident, was sentenced on March 12 to 54 months in federal prison for possessing firearms as a felon.
Young was found with two loaded firearms after law enforcement conducted a traffic stop following an incident at a Davenport gas station in March 2025. According to public court documents, Young had pointed a firearm at victims during the incident. Officers discovered the weapons hidden in the hood of his vehicle. At the time of this offense, Young was on probation for a prior felony conviction from 2024 related to possession of cocaine, third or subsequent offense, from the Iowa District Court for Scott County.
After serving his prison sentence, Young will be required to complete three years of supervised release. There is no parole available in the federal system.
United States Attorney David C. Waterman of the Southern District of Iowa announced the sentencing. The investigation involved the Davenport Police Department, Scott County Sheriff’s Office, and Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives.
This case falls under Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), an initiative that brings together law enforcement agencies and communities to reduce violent crime and gun violence. The program’s strategy includes fostering trust within communities and supporting organizations that work to prevent violence.
