Michael Scott Boen, II, age 33, from Dubuque, Iowa, was sentenced on March 17 to ten years in federal prison after pleading guilty to distributing a controlled substance following a conviction for a serious drug felony.
The case highlights ongoing efforts by law enforcement and the courts to address methamphetamine trafficking in the region. Boen’s sentencing follows evidence that he distributed significant quantities of illegal drugs over several months.
According to court records, between September 2024 and January 2025, Boen sold more than seven pounds of methamphetamine. In October 2024, officers stopped Boen in Dubuque and seized 12 grams of methamphetamine from his vehicle. Two weeks later, he attempted to trade a stolen firearm to a drug dealer for additional methamphetamine. A search of his home in January 2025 uncovered more methamphetamine.
United States District Court Chief Judge C.J. Williams handed down the sentence in Cedar Rapids. In addition to the prison term, Boen must serve an eight-year period of supervised release after completing his incarceration. There is no parole available in the federal system.
The outcome underscores the consequences faced by individuals involved in large-scale drug distribution and related criminal activity.
