U.S. Senator Joni Ernst (R-Iowa), a combat veteran of the Global War on Terrorism, attended a dignified transfer ceremony in Dover, Delaware, to honor six members of Des Moines’ 103rd Sustainment Command. The fallen included Iowans Sgt. Declan J. Coady, Maj. Jeffrey R. O’Brien, and Chief Warrant Officer Three Robert M. Marzan, whose family resided in Iowa.
Senator Ernst was joined by President Donald J. Trump and the Iowa delegation at the ceremony. General Randy George and Major General Stephen Osborn also participated in honoring the servicemembers.
Ernst’s office provides constituent services such as casework and facilitating interactions with federal agencies, according to her official website. She leads the Senate Committee on Small Business and Entrepreneurship and serves on several other committees including Armed Services, Agriculture, Nutrition and Forestry, and Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs (source). Her representation covers all of Iowa (source), offering assistance with casework and responding to public inquiries (source). Ernst has served as a senator from Iowa since her election in 2014, when she became both the first woman from Iowa elected to the U.S. Senate and the first female combat veteran in that body (source).
