U.S. Senator Joni Ernst announced on Mar. 9 that Grant Ranch Grub & Pub of Keokuk County has been named her Small Business of the Week. Ernst, who chairs the Senate Small Business Committee, plans to recognize a small business in each of Iowa’s 99 counties during the 119th Congress.
The recognition highlights the importance of small businesses in local communities and their role in supporting Iowa’s economy. Ernst said, “Grant Ranch Grub & Pub is a shining example of how Iowa hospitality, family tradition, and entrepreneurial perseverance can be sandwiched together to make a big impact.” She added, “Through exceptional service, Danette Meyer and her team are serving up hometown flavor one plate at a time.”
Grant Ranch Grub & Pub traces its roots back to the late 1960s when it was founded by Duane and Mary Grant. The business changed locations over time but was revived in 2003 by their daughter Sherry Fisher. Today, Danette Meyer, the first grandchild of Duane and Mary Grant, operates the restaurant on Sigourney Square where it has become a local favorite for full-service dining.
Ernst leads the Senate Committee on Small Business and Entrepreneurship and also serves on several other committees including Armed Services; Agriculture, Nutrition and Forestry; and Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs according to her official website. Her office provides constituent services such as casework assistance and facilitating interactions with federal agencies according to the official website.
Ernst represents all Iowans in the U.S. Senate and offers services across the state according to her official website. She made history with her election in 2014 as both Iowa’s first female senator and the first female combat veteran to serve in that body according to her official website.
Ernst will continue recognizing outstanding small businesses throughout Iowa with her weekly award.
