Governor Kim Reynolds released a statement on Mar. 10 after the Iowa Senate passed SF 2466, a bill aimed at improving the statewide system for delivering benefits to veterans. The bill received bipartisan support in the Senate.
The issue is significant because Iowa currently ranks low nationally in providing veteran benefits, and many veterans are not receiving assistance. Governor Reynolds said, “Today, Iowa ranks 44th in the nation for veteran benefits, and only 29 percent of Iowa veterans are receiving the assistance they deserve. That’s not acceptable.”
Reynolds emphasized that aligning resources and increasing efficiency will help ensure that veterans receive their earned benefits. She said, “By aligning resources and improving efficiency, we can ensure that the Iowans who served our nation with honor receive the benefits they’ve earned. Thank you to the Senate for passing this bill with bipartisan support to modernize our CVSO system and support the men and women who have sacrificed so much for us.”
According to the official website, notable personnel for the Iowa Governor include Governor Reynolds and Lieutenant Governor Cournoyer. The governor provides statewide leadership to residents across Iowa from offices at the Iowa State Capitol in Des Moines, as reported by the official website. The office also supports public initiatives such as food assistance programs and task forces for national events according to its official website.
The passage of SF 2466 marks a step toward addressing gaps in veteran services within Iowa. As state leadership continues efforts to modernize systems supporting veterans, observers will watch how these changes impact benefit delivery across communities.
