Governor Kim Reynolds signed into law on April 9 HF 2514, a bill that makes children of child care workers in Iowa eligible for the state Child Care Assistance Program. The signing took place at Stepping Stones Child Development Center in Slater, Iowa.
The new law is intended to help working families and support the child care workforce. “This legislation makes a difference for all working families in Iowa,” Governor Reynolds said. “It offers child care workers with young children a reliable, affordable option to stay on the job and helps child care centers recruit and retain early childhood educators and staff. And, as more centers are able to grow their workforce, child care access will continue to expand and serve more working families across the state.”
In addition to HF 2514, Governor Reynolds signed several other bills covering topics such as natural resources management, life insurance regulations, legal representation pilot projects for families involved with welfare services, peer-to-peer car sharing programs, public construction bidding definitions, consent for medical care by pregnant minors, criminal procedure rules following acquittals based on insanity defenses, insurance fraud investigations involving adjusters and appraisers, administrative services policies including biodiesel fuel requirements for state vehicles, dissolution of marriage procedures including name changes, prohibitions on licensure of certain foreign entities operating health facilities in Iowa, intimidation with dangerous weapons penalties, education expense definitions for qualified programs, authority under durable power of attorney related to health care decisions, installation of transmission lines along highways rights-of-way regulations, annuity standards applicability updates, regulation of security alarm systems by local governments, accessory dwelling unit ordinances, interviews after reports of child abuse, and drainage district records.
