The City of Independence announced on May 1 that Highway 150 (5th Avenue) will be closed for necessary sewer repairs and concrete patching from Tuesday, May 5 at approximately 8:00 AM until Wednesday, May 6 at around 7:00 AM.

The closure is intended to allow utility crews to complete maintenance work. The official detour will span Highway 150 between 1st Street East and 12th Street NE. The main work zone will be at the intersection of Highway 150 (5th Avenue) and 3rd Street, with additional northbound lane patching near the address of 707 5th Avenue. No traffic will be permitted through this immediate intersection during the project.

Local traffic will have access to properties along the corridor up to the closure at 3rd Street, but all through traffic must follow posted detours using adjacent streets. Northbound drivers should use a route west onto 1st Street, north onto 2nd Avenue, then east onto 12th Street before returning to Highway 150. Southbound drivers are directed west onto 12th Street, south onto 2nd Avenue, then east onto 1st Street before rejoining Highway 150.

City officials ask residents and motorists for patience as crews carry out these improvements. “We appreciate your patience and cooperation as we work to maintain and improve our city infrastructure. Please follow all posted signage and drive safely in the area,” according to city representatives.

The roadwork is part of ongoing efforts by local authorities to ensure safe travel conditions within Independence.
