The Historical Society for the Southern District of Iowa announced on Apr. 30 that it will hold its annual meeting in person at the Des Moines Courthouse on July 20 at noon Central Time.

The event is significant as it brings together members and supporters to discuss ongoing projects and initiatives aimed at preserving the history of the United States District Court for the Southern District of Iowa.

The organization, which operates as a branch of the Historical Society for the Eighth Circuit Court of Appeals, focuses on recording and producing oral histories from federal and state appellate court judges in Iowa, as well as other leaders from this district. More information about these oral history projects can be found here.

Additionally, the society is collaborating with several partners to bring “The Supreme Court in My Hometown” program to Iowa. This initiative will include a Teacher Professional Development program during summer 2027 and community events during back-to-back weeks in summer 2029. The society invites those interested in participating or planning these programs to get involved now.

Membership opportunities are available for individuals who wish to support or participate further with the Historical Society for the Southern District of Iowa. Details about membership and involvement can be found within their announcement.
