The Iowa Department of Transportation announced that intermittent lane closures will begin April 29 on Iowa 9 from U.S. 218 to Riceville in Mitchell County for a road construction project.
According to the department’s New Hampton construction office, the closures are expected to last until early October, weather permitting, as crews conduct a hot-mix asphalt pavement resurfacing project along this stretch of highway.
During active construction periods, traffic will be guided through the work zone by flaggers and pilot cars. The department advises motorists to drive with caution, obey posted speed limits and signs in the work area, and remember that traffic fines for moving violations are at least double in work zones. Drivers are also reminded to stay alert, allow ample space between vehicles, and wear seat belts.
