The Iowa Department of Transportation announced on April 9 that Iowa 2 east of Sidney will be closed to traffic beginning April 20 due to a pavement replacement project.

Recent rains have delayed the start date for the work. Crews will begin by patching county roads along the detour route from Monday, April 13 through Friday, April 17, weather permitting. Lane closures will be in place on Fremont County roads L-68 and J-32 as well as U.S. 59 during this period.

Once Iowa 2 is closed from .1 mile east of 342nd Avenue to the East Nishnabotna River, motorists will follow a marked detour using U.S. 59 and Fremont County roads J-32 and L-68. Elder Corp is the contractor for this project.

The Iowa Department of Transportation reminds drivers to exercise caution in work zones, obey posted speed limits and signage, and be aware that traffic fines for moving violations are at least double in these areas. Drivers are also advised to stay alert, allow ample space between vehicles, and wear seat belts.

Travelers can access up-to-date information through the department’s 511 system by visiting 511ia.org, calling within Iowa at 511 or nationwide at 800-288-1047.
