The Iowa Department of Transportation announced on April 23 that overnight closures are scheduled for Interstate 35/Interstate 80 between the Southwest Mixmaster and Iowa 141 to allow emergency repair work on the bridges over Walnut Creek.
According to the Iowa Department of Transportation’s Grimes Construction office, southbound I-35 and westbound I-80 will be closed to traffic from 10 p.m. to 7 a.m. on Friday, April 24. Northbound I-35 and eastbound I-80 will be closed during the same hours on Saturday, April 25. Drivers are advised to use the designated detour during these closures.
The department reminds motorists to drive with caution, obey posted speed limits and signs in work areas, and be aware that traffic fines for moving violations are at least double in work zones. The statement also urges drivers to stay alert, maintain ample space between vehicles, and wear seat belts at all times.
