The Iowa Farm Bureau Federation issued a statement on Apr. 30 regarding the bipartisan passage of a five-year farm bill in the U.S. House.

The passage of the Farm, Food and National Security Act of 2026 is seen as significant for farmers and rural communities. The legislation aims to protect interstate commerce, address regulatory challenges such as Proposition 12, and provide support to farmers facing economic difficulties.

Brent Johnson, president of the Iowa Farm Bureau Federation, said: “Iowa Farm Bureau members welcome the bipartisan passage of a five-year farm bill in the U.S. House and are thankful for the work of the Iowa congressional delegation to ensure a vote. The Farm, Food and National Security Act of 2026 is important legislation that protects interstate commerce, such as addressing Prop 12, and is welcome news for farmers currently facing a patchwork of state laws to navigate and consumers who have felt increased food costs. This legislation lends much needed support to farmers during challenging economic times and demonstrates a strong commitment to supporting America’s farmers and rural communities. We are thankful for the U.S. House passing this important bill.”

The Iowa Farm Bureau Federation has invested $125 million into rural communities through its Renew Rural Iowa program according to its official website. The organization also serves as title sponsor for both the Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union and Iowa High School Athletic Association according to its official website.

In addition to legislative advocacy, the federation supports rural areas with initiatives focused on economic development, education opportunities, and health care access according to its official website. It maintains offices in all counties across Iowa—100 offices statewide—and comprises 100 county bureaus serving all 99 counties according to its official website.

The organization affiliates with the American Farm Bureau Federation as part of a national network spanning all states plus Puerto Rico as per its official website.
