Iowa State University secured its second Big 12 Conference series win of the season by defeating Brigham Young University, 9-6, in Provo on April 18. The Cyclones ended a three-series losing streak and did not trail during the game at Gail Miller Field.

The result is significant for Iowa State (27-18, 7-11 Big 12), as it marks their first conference series win since mid-March. The team’s offense produced nine runs on nine hits and drew five walks, helping to clinch the road victory over BYU (16-28, 6-12 Big 12).

Senior infielder McKenna Andrews led Iowa State with two hits and two runs batted in. Kadence Shepherd and Karlee Ford also drove in two runs each. Jessie Clemons contributed by scoring three times, drawing two walks, and stealing her thirteenth base of the season.

Ava Mullen started for Iowa State and pitched four-and-a-third innings. Lauren Schurman came in during high-pressure moments to close out the game; she also recorded her first career hit and run batted in during the win.

For BYU, Hailey Shuler had six strikeouts as a pitcher while also hitting her sixth home run of the year and driving in two runs. Rita Tavita matched Shuler’s total with two runs batted in and hit a home run herself.

Looking ahead, Iowa State will host Iowa at Cyclone Sports Complex on Tuesday, April 21 for the second game of the Iowa Corn Cy-Hawk Series. The matchup is scheduled to begin at 4 p.m., with live streaming available on ESPN+.
