Jones County Conservation announced on Apr. 16 the addition of the Leifker tract to the Eby’s Mill Wildlife Area, expanding opportunities for outdoor recreation and wildlife observation.
The new addition features a mile of Maquoketa River frontage, as well as both lowland and upland areas suitable for hunting and hiking. As part of the Indian Bluffs-Pictured Rocks Bird Conservation Area, this site allows visitors to observe up to 243 documented bird species.
According to Jones County Conservation, hiking trails have been established throughout the area, making it accessible for a variety of outdoor activities. The presence of river frontage also enhances fishing and nature viewing opportunities in the region.
The inclusion in a designated bird conservation area highlights its importance for local wildlife habitat and offers unique experiences for birdwatchers. This move aligns with ongoing efforts to preserve natural spaces while providing public access for recreation.
With these developments, Jones County Conservation encourages residents and visitors alike to explore the new Leifker Addition during their next outdoor adventure.
