Luther College issued the following announcement.
Luther encourages students to become courageous leaders in our community and beyond. A Luther education is designed to equip students to help solve today’s problems as leaders, doers, and changemakers. Luther continually works toward finding a solution for one of society’s largest issues, sexual misconduct. In response, Wellness, Student Life, and the Title IX office are excited to announce Luther College has partnered with a non-profit organization called Alteristic. This established non-profit provides training using a curriculum called Green Dot. Colleges with the Green Dot program have seen 17-21% reductions in sexual violence.
Green Dot relies on the premise that if everyone does their small part and commits to individual responsibility, the combined effect is a safe campus culture that is intolerant of violence. Luther has not been immune to the impact and feelings associated with sexual violence on our campus but collectively, as a community, we can work together to improve upon our knowledge, skills, and resources to further address and prevent this harm.
Green Dot is community-based and involves all students, staff, administrators, and faculty as key stakeholders in preventing sexual violence on our campus. Luther will start by training 50 faculty and staff the week of May 24 and we anticipate launching this training with Luther students in Fall 2021!
