Kevin Knight, age 45, from Mason City, Iowa, was sentenced on March 6 to 13 years in federal prison after pleading guilty in October to one count of conspiracy to distribute methamphetamine and three counts of distribution of methamphetamine.
The sentencing highlights ongoing efforts by law enforcement to address drug trafficking in the region. Authorities said Knight was involved in a methamphetamine distribution conspiracy based in Mason City between January 2024 and February 2025. Law enforcement documented his active participation in drug trafficking during this period.
Knight has an extensive criminal record that includes convictions for thefts, forgeries, burglaries, domestic abuse assault, and four previous methamphetamine-related offenses. United States District Court Judge Leonard T. Strand handed down the sentence of 156 months’ imprisonment. In addition to the prison term, Knight must serve a five-year term of supervised release. There is no parole in the federal system.
Knight is currently being held by the United States Marshal’s Service until he can be transported to a federal prison. The case was investigated by the Cerro Gordo County Sheriff’s Department and the Iowa Division of Narcotics Enforcement. Assistant United States Attorney Ron Timmons prosecuted the case.
The outcome reflects continued collaboration among local and state agencies to combat illegal drug activity.
