Wenona Oropeza, a 48-year-old resident of Omaha, Nebraska, has been sentenced to more than ten years in federal prison after pleading guilty to conspiracy to distribute methamphetamine. The sentencing took place on March 5, 2026.
According to evidence presented during the plea and sentencing hearings, Oropeza arranged for others to drive her from Omaha to Sioux Falls, South Dakota several times over the course of one year between 2024 and 2025. During these trips, she transported multiple ounces of methamphetamine with the intention of selling it in Sioux Falls at a significant profit.
On March 2, 2025, law enforcement stopped a vehicle near Sioux City for traffic violations. Oropeza was a passenger in the car. Officers seized more than 50 grams of pure methamphetamine from the vehicle. Oropeza admitted that she intended to sell the drugs in Sioux Falls.
United States District Court Judge Leonard T. Strand sentenced Oropeza to 130 months in prison. She will also be required to serve five years of supervised release following her incarceration. There is no possibility of parole under the federal system. Until she is transferred to a federal prison facility, Oropeza remains in the custody of the United States Marshal’s Service.
“There is no parole in the federal system,” stated officials.
