The Iowa Department of Transportation announced on April 3 that nighttime closures will affect westbound Interstate 80 between the Southwest Mixmaster (I-35/I-80/I-235) and Grand Prairie Parkway (Exit 118), beginning Wednesday, April 8, weather permitting.
According to the department’s Creston construction office, crews will close westbound I-80 during specific overnight periods to reconfigure traffic lanes. The closures are scheduled from 8:30 p.m. Wednesday, April 8 to 5 a.m. Thursday, April 9; from 8:30 p.m. Thursday, April 9 to 5 a.m. Friday, April 10; and from 8:30 p.m. Sunday, April 12 to 5 a.m. Monday, April 13.
During these times, those traveling west on I-235 who wish to reach westbound I-80 will need to exit at 50th Street (Exit 1A), turn onto University Avenue, and then use Grand Prairie Parkway (Exit 118) to access westbound I-80. Travelers on northbound I-35 should exit at University Avenue (Exit 72C) and then proceed via Grand Prairie Parkway (Exit 118) to reach their destination.
The Iowa Department of Transportation reminds motorists to drive with caution in work zones and obey posted speed limits and signs. “Traffic fines for moving violations are at least double in work zones. As in all work zones, drivers should stay alert, allow ample space between vehicles, and wear seat belts,” the department said.
