The Iowa Department of Transportation announced on April 3 that a project to paint grooved pavement markings on Interstate 80 in the Council Bluffs area will require nighttime lane and ramp closures beginning Monday, April 13, weather permitting.

According to the Council Bluffs construction office, closures will affect various segments of I-80 and associated ramps over several nights. On Monday, April 13, a single left-lane closure is scheduled for eastbound I-80 from the East System Interchange to Franklin Avenue between 7 p.m. and 9 p.m., followed by a double left-lane closure from 9 p.m. until 7 a.m. Tuesday.

On Tuesday night, a single right-lane closure will occur from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m., with additional full closures including the northbound I-29 ramp to eastbound I-80, local lanes in the East System Interchange, and exit and entrance ramps at Madison Avenue during overnight hours. Similar westbound closures are planned for Wednesday and Thursday nights through early Friday morning.

The Iowa DOT reminds motorists to drive with caution, obey posted speed limits and signs in work zones, noting that traffic fines for moving violations are at least double in these areas. Drivers are also advised to stay alert, allow ample space between vehicles, and wear seat belts.

Travelers can access up-to-date information through the Iowa DOT’s 511 system via website (511ia.org), phone (511 within Iowa or 800-288-1047 nationwide), social media platforms Facebook or X, or by downloading the free app. Subscription options for email or text alerts are available through Your 511. Further details about managing accounts can be found online.

More information about these scheduled closures is available in the organization’s press release.
