U.S. Senator Joni Ernst announced on Apr. 6 that Mill Creek Cafe in Cedar County has been selected as her Small Business of the Week. The recognition is part of her plan to highlight a small business from each of Iowa’s 99 counties during the 119th Congress.
The announcement aims to draw attention to the important role local businesses play in Iowa communities by providing services and fostering connections among residents.
“Mill Creek Cafe is a soup-er example of the dedication and community spirit that define Iowa small businesses,” Chair Ernst said. “Dishing out greatness for over 15 years, Jamie and Marcia have created a welcoming space where neighbors gather to enjoy quality, home-cooked meals, strengthening Clarence one customer at a time.”
Mill Creek Cafe was founded in 2010 by Jamie Wilhua and Marcia Syring. The cafe features a rotating six-week menu with made-from-scratch meals and desserts, serving as a staple for local residents due to its warm atmosphere and consistent quality.
Ernst serves on several Senate committees after making history as the first woman from Iowa elected to federal office according to her official website. She has also served more than 23 years in the military, achieving the rank of lieutenant colonel in the Iowa Army National Guard and commanding troops during Operation Iraqi Freedom according to her official website.
Her background includes growing up on a family farm in Montgomery County, where she learned values of hard work and service according to her official website. She holds degrees from Iowa State University and Columbus State University according to her official website.
Ernst’s office also provides assistance with federal agency matters such as Social Security, Medicare, veterans benefits, immigration issues, and military affairs according to her official website.
Chair Ernst will continue recognizing outstanding small businesses across Iowa throughout this congressional session.
