U.S. Senator Joni Ernst announced on Apr. 27 that Toppling Goliath Brewing Co., located in Winneshiek County, has been named her Small Business of the Week.
The recognition is part of Ernst’s plan to highlight small businesses in each of Iowa’s 99 counties during the 119th Congress, underscoring the importance of local entrepreneurship and community impact.
“Since 2009, Clark and Barbara have brewed up an internationally recognized establishment known for its award-winning craft beer,” said Chair Ernst. “Through their commitment to quality, innovation, and community, they have tapped into what makes a successful business.”
Toppling Goliath Brewing Co., founded by Clark and Barbara Lewey with a focus on creating unique craft beer in northeast Iowa, has grown from a microbrewery into an internationally recognized brand. The family-owned operation employs more than 150 people and features a taproom offering over 40 types of beer to serve the Decorah community.
Ernst’s office provides assistance to Iowans with federal agency matters such as Social Security, Medicare, veterans benefits, immigration issues, and military affairs according to the official website. She served more than two decades in the Iowa Army National Guard and commanded troops during Operation Iraqi Freedom according to the official website. Raised on a family farm in Montgomery County where she learned values of hard work and service according to the official website, Ernst became Iowa’s first woman elected to federal office upon joining Congress according to the official website. She holds degrees from Iowa State University and Columbus State University according to the official website.
