University of Iowa issued the following announcement on Nov. 9
Eighth-seeded Mount Mercy went toe-to-toe with top-seeded Central Methodist (Mo.) for 30 minutes on Friday, but in the end, the top-ranked team in the nation cruised to a 9-1 victory over the Mustangs in the Heart of America Athletic Conference Men's Soccer Championship quarterfinals.
Once the Eagle offense got going, there was no stopping the defending NAIA national champions. First-half goals came from Alberto Pangrazzi (30'), Marcos German (35'), Rodrigo Paredes (37'), and Rian Marques (42'). Central Methodist opened the second half with three more scores by Daniel Hernandez (52'), Luc Alvarez (54'), and Christian Sanchez Ortiz (65') before Mount Mercy got on the board.
Kevin Kastl (SR/Schwabach, Germany), in his final match in a Mustang uniform, notched his ninth goal of the season with a chip over goalkeeper Harry Porritt's head from 35 yards out in the 70th minute. Junior Kazeem and Qian Grosvenor added goals over the final eight minutes of the match to finish off the scoring.
Mount Mercy ends the season with an overall record of 7-9-2. Central Methodist (18-1-0) takes a 13-game winning streak into a semifinal matchup with fourth-seeded Baker (Kan.) (11-5-3) on Tuesday in Fayette
