Mount Mercy University issued the following announcement on Jan. 16

Dennis McKinney (JR/Chicago, Ill.) poured in a game-high 26 points while becoming the 22nd player in school history to reach the 1,000-point mark in Mount Mercy's 97-64 rout of Culver-Stockton in a Heart of America Athletic Conference men's basketball game Wednesday night at Hennessey Recreation Center.

The Mustangs (9-8, 4-7 Heart) now prepare for Saturday's showdown with NAIA Division I third-ranked William Penn (16-1, 10-1 Heart). After a narrow 81-75 win at Central Methodist on Wednesday, the Statesmen bring a 10-game winning streak to Hennessey Rec Center for a 4:00 p.m. tipoff.

McKinney, Mount Mercy's leading scorer this season at 17.6 points per game, buried seven 3-pointers in Wednesday's runaway victory over Culver-Stockton (3-13, 2-10 Heart). He was 9-of-16 from the field overall and 7-of-11 beyond the arc while also grabbing a game-high nine rebounds. He sits in 21st place on Mount Mercy's career scoring list with 1,011 points.

Five more Mustangs also hit double figures against the Wildcats. RoyShawn Webb (JR/Cedar Rapids, Iowa) tallied 16 points, four rebounds, and five assists. Bailey Basala (JR/Moline, Ill.) chipped in 11 points, while Streeter McIlravy (JR/Solon, Iowa), Tyler Kelley (SO/Manchester, Iowa), and DJ Johnson (JR/San Antonio, Texas) added 10 points apiece. Webb also finished with a game-high five assists.

Michael Johnson was Culver-Stockton's top scorer with 19 points. Mason Vires had 15 points, Thaddeus Newby 11 points to go along with nine rebounds. Javier March dished out three assists.
