Mount Mercy University issued the following announcement on Feb. 15
Mount Mercy was halfway to their second-straight road win on Saturday, but Baker put up 52 points after intermission to defeat the Mustangs, 85-80, in a Heart of America Athletic Conference men's basketball game.
Mount Mercy (13-13, 8-12 Heart) held a 34-33 advantage at the break despite a first half that saw Baker (13-13, 11-9 Heart) shoot 50 percent from the floor. That number soared higher during the final 20 minutes as the Wildcats shot 56.7 percent from the field in the second half while outscoring the Mustangs, 52-46.
Dennis McKinney (JR/Chicago, Ill.)'s 23 points led a quintet of Mustangs in double figures. DJ Johnson (JR/San Antonio, Texas) came off the bench to total 16 points and six rebounds. Davion Watson (SR/Champaign, Ill.) totaled 13 points, 10 boards, and game-high five assists. RoyShawn Webb (JR/Cedar Rapids, Iowa) finished with 12 points, Bailey Basala (JR/Moline, Ill.) 11 points and four assists.
The Wildcats were led by Brandon Clifford's 21 points. Brett Elifritz tallied 18 points and seven rebounds, Jalen Patterson 15 points, and Braden Wiggs 13 points and seven boards.
Mount Mercy concludes a four-game road stretch on Wednesday when they head to Canton, Mo., to face Culver-Stockton. Tip-off is slated for 7:30 p.m.
