City of West Des Moines issued the following announcement.
West Des Moines residents may bring scrap appliances and metal to the West Des Moines Public Services East facility, 560 S. 16th Street, on Saturday, June 5, from 8 a.m. to 12:00 (noon). This event occurs the Saturday before Spring Cleanup which will be held the week of June 7 on your regular garbage collection day. Appliances will not be accepted during Spring Cleanup so it’s best to bring them to the drop-off on June 5.
Some of the items that will be accepted free of charge include general scrap metal and the following:
Air conditioners, furnaces, washers, dryers, microwaves, dishwashers, water heaters, stoves, refrigerators, freezers, dehumidifiers, humidifiers, fax machines, copiers, computer servers, computer towers, printers, video gaming systems, VCRs, DVD players, batteries (lead, acid), cell phones, exercise equipment, metal cabinets, metal chairs/lawn furniture, sinks, metal bed frames, riding and walk behind lawnmowers, snow blowers, bikes and tricycles, cameras, pots, pans, blenders, mixers, toasters, vacuums, weed eaters, speakers, stereo systems and fans.
Televisions and computer monitors will be accepted for a fee (cash or check only):
- TVs or computer monitors: Up to 20 inches: $20/each; 20 inches - 30 inches: $30/each; Over 30 inches - $40/each
Items that will NOT be accepted include: Anything with food in it, chemicals, garbage, light bulbs, paint, plastics and wood.
Personnel will be available to assist residents with unloading items. The paper shredding truck will not be at this event. If you have questions, call the Public Services Department at 222-3480.
