Lumhe and Samsoche Sampson (Mvskoke Creek/Seneca) – the Sampson Bros. – have revitalized an age-old tradition by performing Native hoop dance to hip-hop. The Minneapolis brothers learned hoop dance as young boys. What started as a way to share hoop dance with their peers at school assemblies has turned into a way of life. Nearly 30 years after the Sampson Bros. picked up their first hoops, they have performed in more than half a dozen countries and at hundreds of universities.

The Sampson Bros. strive to give back to their tribe by promoting cultural pride, unity, and hope through a positive example of art, education, and dance. Not only do they perform, but they also offer workshops in hoop dance, Powwow style dances, Native flute and music, and more.

Tall Paul is an Anishinaabe and Oneida hip-hop artist enrolled on the Leech Lake reservation in Minnesota.
