The No. 5 ranked University of Iowa football team faced off against Kent State on Saturday, Sept. 18, as a team in a class all by itself early this season.
Thus far this season the team is the only one in the country with two wins over ranked teams — 34-6 over No. 17 Indiana and 27-17 at No. 9 Iowa State, according to HawkeyesSports.com.
Barstool Sports warned the Hawkeyes, ranked as high as they’ve been since the 2015 season, needed to show even more against Kent State.
“Bad news for the University of Iowa,” the site posted on Twitter. “The upset train is coming.”
The Hawkeyes rode into Kinnick Stadium on an eight-game winning streak where they’ve outscored their opponents 275-106, while averaging 34.3 points per game. Over that time, Iowa has scored at least 25 points in every game, the longest such streak in school history.
On offense, the backfield duo of QB Spencer Petras — 116-204 with 1,339 passing yards, 9 touchdowns over the streak — and RB Tyler Goodson — 102.3 yards per game, 9 rushing touchdowns — has led the way.
Winners of 13 straight non-conference games, the Hawkeyes sought their 300th win at Kinnick, which first opened its doors in 1929.
