No. 5 Iowa defeated Colorado State on Saturday, Sept. 25, after a second-half comeback and Spencer Petras throwing for 224 yards and two touchdowns.
“The Hawkeyes are undefeated. Iowa: 24, Colorado State: 14.” University of Iowa wrote on Twitter on Sept. 25.
The game was rarely easy for Iowa due to Colorado State’s management of field position, clock, and turnovers, according to SB Nation. Until halftime, Colorado State led by 14-7 but right after that, the Hawkeyes went on back-to-back possessions and, thus, scored touchdowns.
This was Spencer Petras’ most prolific day in his career, SB Nation reported. He finished the game with 224 yards on 15/23 passing with 2 TDs and 1 interception.
The final score for the game was 24-14, KWWL reported. Iowa reached the 24 points mark after a fourth quarter field goal, after which the game continued with empty possessions.
This is Iowa’s 10th consecutive win, making it the team’s longest streak since winning 12 games to open the 2015 season, according to KWWL. Even though Colorado State controlled the first half, they couldn’t keep up their momentum in the second half.
