The average Iowa driver will pay $56 more at the pump in April 2022 than they did in April 2021, according to an analysis of gas prices from the AAA motor club and Federal Highway Administration (FHA) data by Hawkeye Reporter.

Iowa drivers will pay an average of $3.89 per gallon of regular gasoline this month versus $2.78 last year. This is a 39.6 percent increase equaling $1.10 per gallon.

A short-term outlook report from the US Energy Information Administration predicted gas rates will fall throughout 2022.

Iowa drivers average 1,228.8 miles and use 50.8 gallons of gasoline per month, according to the FHA.
