NICC Cougar Sports Shooting closes regular season with narrow loss to Southeastern Blackhawks

NICC athlete Austin Snell, the meet’s top scorer with 99 points, was named Athlete of the Week by the Iowa Community College Athletic Conference.

Northeast Iowa Community College Cougar Sports Shooting ended the regular season with a close loss to the Southeastern Blackhawks on Saturday, Oct. 8, 448-482.

NICC athlete Austin Snell, the meet’s top scorer with 99 points, was named Athlete of the Week by the Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (pictured at right). The Cougars posted a 2-2 season record and advance next to the Collegiate Central Midwest Conference Championships.

NICC student athletes competing in the event, and Male Individual scores, included top scorer Austin Snell, Decorah, 99; Emmit Stemper, of Decorah, 91; Paul Hanni, Cresco, 88; Jackson Rollins, Decorah, 86; Alex Digman, Earlville, 84; Alex Zweibohmer, Decorah, 80; Nick Gibbs, Earlville, 80; Zach Schroeder, Elgin, 79; Nicholas Saeugling, La Motte, 71; and Sam Clausen, Johnston, 61.

NICC Female Individual athlete Hailey Elsbernd, of Fort Atkinson, scored an 84.

“We couldn’t have asked for a better day to shoot,” stated Austin Snell.

Head Coach Anthony Sisneros is proud of the team’s athletes and performance this season. “The Southeastern Blackhawks were a little too tough for our student athletes that were able to attend this weekend’s competition, but they did their best to wrap up our last conference competition. We finished up our regular season with 2-2 record, which is a great improvement from last season. With the addition of all our athletes showing great improvement, I couldn’t be happier with our regular season results. Now on to a regional and state competitions to finish out the year,” Sisneros said.

The NICC Cougars are on the road this weekend to compete at the Collegiate Central Midwest Conference Championships in Sparta, Ill.
