Volunteer Income Tax Assistance

Event Description:

ISU Extension and Outreach is again holding their Volunteer Income Tax Assistance program to assist in tax preparation for low to moderate income taxpayers. Electronic filing can be done by IRS vertified volunteers for both federal and state returns. Program will be held at Drake Community Library.

Who Qualifies: Individuals and families whose incomes are $58,000 or less. Returns that may include any of the following cannot be done through this service: farm income, rental income, contract sale of property, business operating expenses exceeding $25,000, depreciation schedules, moving expenses, debt cancelation due to bankruptcy, or loss from a business.

Appointment Options: A 15 minutes drop-off or face to face appointment is available. CDC guidelines will be followed. To schedule a 15 minute drop off OR a face-to-face appointment, call Poweshiek County ISU at 641-236-5188 between 8 AM - 4:30 PM Monday through Friday. Volunteers will be available for 1-hour face to face appointments on the following dates and times:

  • Wednesday, March 8: 5 PM— 8 PM

  • Saturday, March 11: 10 AM - 2 PM

  • Wednesday, March 15: 5 PM— 8 PM

  • Saturday, March 18: 10 AM - 2 PM

Refunds can be deposited directly into checking or savings accounts.
