WASHINGTON – Sens. Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa) and Joni Ernst (R-Iowa), along with Reps. Mariannette Miller-Meeks (R-Iowa), Ashley Hinson (R-Iowa), Zach Nunn (R-Iowa) and Randy Feenstra (R-Iowa), called on President Joe Biden to swiftly grant Governor Kim Reynolds’ Emergency Declaration request following the devastating building collapse in Davenport. The collapse, which occurred last Saturday, resulted in the loss of three Iowans. The emergency declaration would provide for debris removal, demolition, reimbursement for response activities and technical assistance.
“The Governor has determined that the building collapse is of such severity and magnitude that effective response is beyond the capabilities of the State and affected local government and that the State requires supplementary federal emergency assistance to save lives and to protect property, public health and safety, or to lessen or avert the threat of this disaster,” the lawmakers wrote.
