WASHINGTON – Sens. Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa) and Joni Ernst (R-Iowa), along with Reps. Mariannette Miller-Meeks (R-Iowa), Ashley Hinson (R-Iowa), Zach Nunn (R-Iowa) and Randy Feenstra (R-Iowa), are once again urging President Joe Biden to approve federal assistance for activities related to last month’s building collapse in Davenport. The lawmakers previously voiced support for Governor Kim Reynolds' Emergency Declaration request, which received no response from the White House. Governor Reynolds’ Major Disaster Declaration request provides further evidence of Davenport’s need for assistance and requests funds to support debris removal, demolition and response activities.

The Honorable Joseph R. Biden

President of the United States of America

The White House

1600 Pennsylvania Avenue, NW

Washington, DC 20500

Dear Mr. President:

We respectfully ask that you promptly grant the request made by Iowa Governor Kim Reynolds for a Major Disaster Declaration for the State of Iowa due to the May 28, 2023, major structural building collapse located in Scott County. The Governor has determined that the building collapse is of such severity and magnitude, that effective response is beyond the capabilities of the State and affected local government and that the State requires supplementary federal emergency assistance to save lives and to protect property, public health and safety, or to lessen or avert the threat of this disaster.

Thank you for your prompt consideration of this important request.
