A Mason City man has been sentenced to over seven years in federal prison for possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine. Todd Aaron Howard Hamilton Sutton, Jr., 34, received his sentence on June 18, 2025, following a guilty plea entered on February 12, 2025.

Sutton admitted in a plea agreement that he was driving a vehicle stopped for a traffic violation in Cerro Gordo County on July 27, 2024. He was arrested for driving while barred and taken to the Cerro Gordo County Jail. During booking, law enforcement discovered approximately 45 grams of methamphetamine concealed on his person. This incident marked the third time Sutton attempted to hide drugs during processing at the jail. His criminal history includes violence and drug convictions.

United States District Court Judge Leonard T. Strand sentenced Sutton in Sioux City to 90 months' imprisonment and four years of supervised release post-incarceration. There is no parole in the federal system. Until his transfer to a federal prison, Sutton remains in the custody of the United States Marshal.

Assistant United States Attorney Patrick Greenwood prosecuted the case, which was investigated by the Cerro Gordo County Sheriff’s Department.
