The Iowa Department of Transportation (DOT) is seeking public input on a proposed bridge replacement project on Iowa 149 over the CPKC railroad in Wapello County. The project involves removing and replacing the existing dual bridges, constructing pavement and shoulders, and installing steel and cable guardrails. Construction is scheduled to begin in spring 2028 and conclude by fall 2028. During this period, traffic will be maintained using a temporary crossover, reducing Iowa 149 from four lanes to a head-to-head traffic pattern.

Residents are encouraged to share their thoughts on the project by July 23. To view project plans and provide feedback, individuals must submit their name and zip code. For inquiries or translation services, contact Chris Kukla, Transportation Planner at the Iowa DOT District 5 Office in Fairfield, Iowa.

The Iowa DOT assures nondiscrimination in all programs under Title VI and Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964. For further information or assistance for persons with disabilities or limited English proficiency, contact the Iowa DOT Civil Rights office.
