A Honduran citizen, Yoni Omar Alvarado-Gomes, also known as Jhonny Ramos Campos, was sentenced to 92 days in prison for illegally reentering the United States after being deported. The sentencing followed his guilty plea on May 28, 2025, to one count of being found in the United States after illegal reentry.

Alvarado-Gomes admitted that he had previously been deported from the United States and returned without government permission. He was removed from the country in both 2009 and 2013. Immigration officials located him at the Tama County Jail on April 26, 2025, after he was arrested on state charges for driving without a license and speeding.

United States District Court Chief Judge C.J. Williams handed down the sentence in Cedar Rapids. In addition to his prison term, Alvarado-Gomes will serve a one-year term of supervised release. There is no parole available in the federal system.

Alvarado-Gomes remains in custody with the United States Marshal until he can be transferred to immigration officials.

According to the Department of Justice, this case is part of Operation Take Back America (https://www.justice.gov/dag/media/1393746/dl?inline), a national initiative aimed at addressing illegal immigration by combining resources from several DOJ programs such as Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Forces (OCDETFs) and Project Safe Neighborhood (PSN).

Assistant United States Attorney Adam J. Vander Stoep prosecuted the case following an investigation by Enforcement and Removal Operations of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement.
