A Waterloo man has been sentenced to five years in federal prison for his role in a drug conspiracy. Adis Vretenarevic, 30, pleaded guilty on March 21, 2025, to one count of conspiracy to distribute a controlled substance.

According to court records, Vretenarevic participated in a scheme from August 2022 through January 2024 to distribute large amounts of marijuana in Waterloo. During this period, he deposited thousands of dollars from drug sales into an account used by the trafficking group. At the time of these offenses, Vretenarevic was already under federal supervision following a conviction for possession of a firearm by a drug user.

Chief Judge C.J. Williams handed down the sentence on August 18, 2025, in Cedar Rapids. Vretenarevic received a term of 60 months’ imprisonment and must also serve five years of supervised release after completing his prison sentence. Federal inmates are not eligible for parole. He is currently held by the United States Marshal’s Service pending transfer to a federal facility.
