All Iowa Department of Transportation (DOT) business locations will be closed on Monday, September 1, in observance of Labor Day. This includes all driver's license service centers, which will resume operations on Tuesday, September 2, at 8 a.m.

For those needing to handle driver's license matters, many services are available online at www.iowadot.gov/drivers-licenses-ids. In-person visits can be scheduled through the Iowa DOT's appointment system at https://iowadot.gov/drivers-licenses-ids/schedule-appointment. Walk-in customers are also welcome but may experience longer wait times without an appointment.

The Iowa DOT advises commercial vehicle operators to plan ahead for any services needed immediately after the holiday weekend. Operators requiring oversize or overweight permits for travel in Iowa on Tuesday, September 2, should secure them by 4:30 p.m. on Friday, August 29. Movements of oversize or overweight loads will not be allowed from noon on Friday, August 29 until half an hour before sunrise on Tuesday, September 2.

Motor carrier services will return to normal hours on Tuesday, September 2, at 8:30 a.m. Due to expected high demand following the holiday, it is recommended that applications for oversize or overweight permits exceeding 156,000 pounds be submitted several days in advance.
