Former Olin man sentenced to 40 years for child sexual exploitation

Christopher West, a 38-year-old former resident of Olin, Iowa, was sentenced to 40 years in federal prison on September 23, 2025, for sexually exploiting children. West pleaded guilty on April 14, 2025, to one count of sexual exploitation of children and one count of distribution of child pornography.

During his plea hearing, West admitted to sexually exploiting four children and distributing child pornography. The sentencing record detailed that the victims were four girls aged 6, 11, 15, and 17.

United States District Court Chief Judge C.J. Williams handed down the sentence in Cedar Rapids. In addition to the prison term of 480 months, West will serve a five-year term of supervised release after his incarceration. He is also required to comply with all sex offender registration and public notification requirements.

"This case was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Mark Tremmel and was investigated by the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation, the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the Cortland, Illinois, Police Department, the Waterloo Police Department, the Jones County Sheriff’s Office, the Anamosa Police Department, the Jefferson City, Tennessee, Police Department, and the Iowa State Patrol," according to officials.
