Contractors will close a section of U.S. 59 south of Shenandoah on Monday, Sept. 22, weather permitting, to facilitate the movement of a crane across the road. This was announced by the Iowa Department of Transportation’s District 4 Office.

During the closure, drivers will be directed to follow a marked detour route using Iowa 2, East Nishna Road, and 270th Street. The Iowa DOT advises motorists to exercise caution in the work area, adhere to posted speed limits and other signs, and be aware that traffic fines for moving violations are at least double in work zones.

The department emphasizes that drivers should remain alert, maintain ample space between vehicles, and wear seat belts. For real-time traveler information, individuals can access the 511 system via several platforms including visiting 511ia.org or calling 511 within Iowa or 800-288-1047 nationwide. Social media updates are available through Facebook or X with links found at https://iowadot.gov/travel-tools/iowa-511/511-social-media-sites.
