Iowa Governor Kim Reynolds released a statement following the United States Congress's approval of a continuing resolution that ends the federal government shutdown, which lasted over 40 days and became the longest in U.S. history.

In her statement, Reynolds said, “I’m grateful to the Senate and House Republicans and the Democrats who joined them in passing an updated continuing resolution to reopen the government.

For over 40 days, Democrats allowed our military, federal employees, and low-income Americans to be used as political leverage. While it should never have gotten to this point, I am relieved the shutdown has ended and that the federal government can resume its essential work on behalf of the American people.”

The shutdown affected various federal services and employees nationwide until Congress reached an agreement to restore operations through a temporary funding measure.
