The Iowa State women’s basketball team has started the season 16-1 for the first time in the program’s history following their 74-60 win against Oklahoma State on Jan. 15, according to a release from the team’s official website.
In addition to their record 16-1 overall start, the Cyclones are 5-0 to open conference play for the sixth time in school history, with all six victories occurring under head coach Bill Fennelly.
“We got off to a great start and kinda hung on from there,” Fennelly said in a post-game press conference.
Lexi Donarski’s scored 23 points, including five 3-pointers making her one of the Cyclone’s key players and marking her fourth 20-point game of the season.
“We made our free-throws, that’s a big thing for us,” Fennelly said. “We’ve always been a big free-throw shooting team.”
Morgan Kane, another key player, finished the game with her second career double-double of 15 points and 10 rebounds.
Players Ahsley Hoens and Emily Ran also had double-digit scoring performances in the game.
