Clinton Area Chamber Of Commerce issued the following announcement on Nov. 26

The Felix Adler Children’s Discovery Center, "Clinton, Iowa's Children's Museum," is celebrating holidays all week long with very special activities including a busy WOW Wednesday afternoon, a festive Funtime Friday morning, Milk and Cookies with Santa on Saturday, and a first-ever ceramics painting class with Rainbow Pottery on Sunday.  Also, the children’s museum has extended their hours and is now open until 6 p.m. on weekdays.

WOW Wednesday: Being Thankful

Wednesday, November 27, from 2 to 6 p.m. is a WOW Wednesday at the Discovery Center, sponsored by Clinton Lions Club.  At the Please Touch Table, Miss Sandy will lead guests in a Thanksgiving activity that reminds us to be thankful for the many good things in our lives.

Chess, juggling and logic puzzles are also a big hit every Wednesday at the Discovery Center. Miss Jean will be on vacation this week, so Miss Amanda will host the favorite STEM-tastic station.  The awesome array of logic puzzles, construction materials, and hands on brain teasers will be on hand.  Chess boards will be out and juggling balls will be available for guests to practice their skills.  All ages and abilities are invited to experiment with the many fascinating activities.

WOW Wednesday is perfect for school-aged kids and their families and is a great activity for a no-school afternoon. WOW Wednesday is drop in with no pre-registration required and is free with regular museum admission.

Funtime Friday: Getting Ready for Santa

Friday, November 29, at 10 a.m. is Funtime Friday, sponsored by Clinton Kiwanis Club and Alliant Energy Foundation.  With Santa coming the next morning, it will be up to Funtime Friday friends to put the finishing touches on the Discovery Center to prepare for his visit.  Guests will hear a Santa story and will then work together to decorate the Beanie Baby Christmas tree.  As always there will be a snack to go with the theme. This popular program is designed for preschoolers and their grown-ups, although children of any age will feel welcome and will enjoy helping the children’s museum prepare for the holiday season.

Milk & Cookies with Santa

Saturday, December 1, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., brings Milk and Cookies with Santa, sponsored by Krumpets Bakery & Café.  The jolly old elf himself will stop by his Discovery Center home, nestle in next to his fireplace and giant tree, and meet all the boys and girls who come to tell him their Christmas wishes.  Everyone will enjoy scrumptious cookies from Krupmets as they sit and watch all the families come visit St. Nick.  Additionally, Discovery Center staff and volunteers will offer hands-on stations at which guests can create holiday cards, cut snowflakes, and craft a special keepsake ornament.

This program needs no registration and is a free activity with regular museum admission.

Christmas Ceramic Painting Class with Rainbow Pottery

The Discovery Center is partnering with Rainbow Pottery of the Clinton Art Association to bring a ceramic painting class to the children’s museum.  The class will be offered on Sunday, December 1, from 1 to 3 p.m., and will be repeated on Sunday, December 8, from 1 to 3 p.m.

The class is open to both children and adults.  Pre-school aged children must be accompanied by a designated adult.  Children in grades kindergarten and above may attend without an adult.

Rainbow Pottery artists will bring an assortment of holiday ceramic pieces from which to choose.  Participants may pick one large item or two ornaments to paint during the class.  High gloss acrylic paint will be used and no firing of the ceramic will be required.  This will allow class participants to paint their piece and take it home that day.  All paint and materials will be provided and the registration includes admission to the children’s museum as well as a coupon to use in the future at Rainbow Pottery.

Pre-registration is strongly recommended as space is limited.  Call the Discovery Center to register.  The cost for one day of class including all ceramics, paints, materials, admission to the Discovery Center, and the Rainbow Potter special offer is $10 per person.  Discovery Center members receive special membership pricing of only $7 per person

The Discovery Center is located at 332 8th Avenue South in downtown Clinton, Iowa, at the foot of the U.S. 30 Bridge over the mighty Mississippi – where the Lincoln Highway meets the Great River Road. They are open Wednesday, Thursday and Friday, 9:30 a.m. to 6 p.m., Saturday 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Sundays 12:30 to 5 p.m. Museum admission is $4 per person ages two to 64, $3 per person ages 65 and older, free for children one and younger, and free for members of the children's museum.
