Mount Mercy University issued the following announcement on March 27
Mount Mercy forward Dennis McKinney (JR/Chicago, Ill.) earned honorable mention when the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) announced the 2020 Division I Men's Basketball All-America teams on Thursday.
McKinney was a first-team all-Heart of America Athletic Conference selection this season after leading the Mustangs in scoring (17.2 ppg) and three-point goals (76). He was also second on the squad at six rebounds per game and reached the 1,000-point mark for his career. McKinney is now 12th on Mount Mercy's career scoring chart with 1,227 points.
Three teams of 10 players each comprised the first-, second-, and third-team all-America lists. Chris Coffey of Georgetown (Ky.) was named player of the year. He led the nation in rebounding (12.7 rpg) and was second in the country in field goal percentage (63.9%). In all, the Heart of America had 11 individuals on all-America teams, including first-team selection Dexter Hood of William Penn.
