Pequea Valley High School issued the following announcement on April 23

PV Families and Seniors,

We want to once again thank the Pequea Valley community for being such an extremely supportive and caring community.  As we transition to the Phase III Learning Plan, we will continue to work together to maintain a high level of attendance and engagement per the Pennsylvania Department of Education’s guidance. Again, we will consider each family’s scenario during this difficult time.  Although learning and continued growth is very important, and there needs to be a level of accountability, we never want a learner’s education and/or grades to be impacted in a negative way due to this very unusual time we are in, in addition to the hardships it is causing.  The emphasis will be on an incentive to engage, but not be punitive.  If there are barriers preventing the engagement, solutions/options will be offered on a case-by-case basis.  Please see specifics below, and if you have any questions or concerns, please don’t hesitate to call.

K-6th Grade Plan:

    • Based on a learner’s schedule, learners will be expected to engage in, complete, and submit the requested learning activities for Math and English Language Arts on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday, and Social Studies/Science on Thursday.  Friday will continue to be an Enrich and Review day for that current week’s learnings.  This expectation will be documented in a learner attendance system to track attendance by looking at it on a “weekly” basis, concluding Sunday evening, to allow for flexibility learners may need.  This again, will focus on providing each learner with the incentive to participate, to maintain the understanding of previously learned material, and to build on that knowledge to be prepared for August and prevent any regression.
    • Again, if there are extenuating circumstances hindering this expectation, the learner should reach out immediately for assistance.  Also, learners should be ensured that there will not be a negative impact based on something out of the learner’s control.
7th – 12th Grade Plan:

    • To be considered in attendance at the secondary level, the learners will be expected to engage in, complete, and submit the daily activities every learning day. If a learner’s schedule or scenario does not allow this, learners may submit their activities on a weekly basis with a deadline of 11:59PM Sunday of that week.
    • For each day a learner is considered to be in attendance, based on the above expectation, they will receive a “1”.  If they do not meet the learning expectations above, they will receive a “0”.
    • At the end of the week, each teacher/learning facilitator will log the attendance in their Sapphire grade book.  At the conclusion of the academic year the percentage of days engaged and attendance will be calculated.
    • The 4th marking period grade will either be the percent of days attended OR the highest of marking periods 1, 2, or 3, whichever is higher. This again, will focus on providing each learner the incentive to participate, not just to improve their grade, but to also remain proficient with already learned material and build on that knowledge to be prepared for August and prevent any regression.
A MESSAGE FOR SENIORS

My heart breaks for the senior class of 2020. You are a wonderful group of individuals and continue to be on our minds and in our hearts each day we go through this crisis. It is our hope that with the help of technology, you are virtually spending time together, talking with one another, celebrating your years here at PV, and reliving your memories while acknowledging your many individual and collective accomplishments.

While nothing can replace this important time for you, we will make sure we have opportunities to celebrate you as individuals and as a class in the best and safest ways possible. I know the big question is Commencement. We still hold out some hope that we can provide as normal of a graduation as possible.  Having said that, it is my job to keep each of you and your family safe during school events, so we will continue to play the “wait and see” game for a few more weeks. If we are unable to provide a commencement in the traditional sense, we are currently brainstorming some alternatives to make a combination of in-person (using social distancing) and a virtual ceremony as enjoyable as possible for you and your family. If we are unable to have a graduation with everyone together, and it is safe to get together in some form later in the summer, we will work hard to provide a senior celebration you and your family will enjoy.

Remember, tough times come and go, but BRAVES stay tough at all times. We miss you and hope you are safe and happy. Take care of yourself and your family.

Sincerely,

Dr. Erik Orndorff

Superintendent
